Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase

Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase review

Relp! Scooby-Doo and the gang have been beamed into cyberspace, and they are not alone. The crafty Phantom Virus is up to his old tricks, and he's got a band of dastardly villains at his disposal. Search for clues, fend off his evil henchmen, and maybe even unmask the Phantom Virus himself The game's 18 levels of Scooby action let you explore a creepy mine, avoid creepy mummies, and throw cream-filled pies to defeat the Phantom and his cronies. All the while, you'll play through environments and scenarios based on the Scooby-Doo movie's story line and artwork. This title is compatible with analog controllers.

scooby doo and the cyber chase4
I think this game is really good fun. I get stuck because I fall in the water all the time. The levels are quite hard and challenging. It has good graphics and each level is very different and gets harder and harder as you go through the game. The aim of the game is to get as many scooby snacks as you can at each level. You have to throw pies at the enemies which keep popping up on the screen and throwing things back at you.If you touch the enemies you lose a life. Collect burgers and sandwiches to improve your energy and score. The game is very much like the movie and each level is like moving through the movie. I've played on this game for hours and enjoyed it a lot. I think it's a good game for anyone aged 6 or more.

GREAT PS1 GAME SHOWS WHAT THE OLD CONSOLE CAN DO!5
THIS IS A SUPER GREAT GAME WITH EASY -CHALLENGING GAMEPLAY, GOOD FOR KIDS AND ADULTS ALIKE. THIS REALLY SHOWS HOW GOOD THE OLD PLAYSTATION 1 WAS/IS. THE GRAPHICS ARE NEARLY AS GOOD AS A NEWLY RELEASED GAME, SOMETIMES BETTER THAN A FEW XBOX 360 GRAPHICS, MOVES WELL, NO GLICHES, GOT THIS ON A WHIM FOR MY 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS BDAY BUT FIND I PLAY IT JUST AS MUCH. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED.

scooby doo does it again4
at first glance i did not rate this game at all, until i saw my twoyoungest daughters playing the game it makes them think it through andinteract with each other, brilliant if the older child is a bit lazy likemine the younger one keeps her on her toes.

    DRIV3R (Xbox)

    DRIV3R (Xbox)

    DRIV3R (Xbox)
    From Namco

    Price: £6.73

    Editorial Reviews

    Amazon.co.uk Review
The original Driver was one of the most popular and original driving games on the PSone and very much helped to pave the way for Grand Theft Auto III and others. The sequel, however, was a massive disappointment and seemed to prove that the Driver formula could only ever work again on the next generation of consoles.

Now finally Driver 3 (or DRIV3R as it insists on calling itself) is here, and although it's not the disaster that the last game was it's still a considerable disappointment. As you would expect from developers Reflections, who also did Stuntman and the original Destruction Derby, the car handling and physics are excellent--perhaps some of the best ever seen. However, the artificial intelligence of your opponent drivers is almost laughably poor and the incredibly detailed graphics, which look so good in the screenshots, come at the expensive of some disappointingly short draw distances, with buildings and backgrounds suddenly popping up as if out of nowhere.

The game itself is now very much influenced by Grand Theft Auto and you can get out of your car and hijack other vehicles. DRIV3R is still predominantly mission-based, though, and unfortunately the difficulty curve is still as frustratingly uneven as ever with some missions seemingly almost superhumanly hard.

If you're a fan of the series then DRIV3R probably won't disappoint too much, but newcomers to the series may find this has rather more problems than you'd expect from such a heavily hyped title.--David Jenkins

    Manufacturer's Description
DRIV3R is an action-packed driving adventure game that stays true to its roots, incorporating the cinematic gameplay and gritty street crime of its predecessors with ground-breaking graphics and three mammoth, wide-open city environments: Miami, Nice, and Istanbul.Featuring Hollywood-caliber production values--with voice actors including Michael Madsen, Ving Rhames, Mickey Rourke and Michelle Rodriguez--and a gripping, narrative story line, DRIV3R casts players once again as undercover cop Tanner who, alongside his partner Tobias, must infiltrate a global car theft ring, an assignment that leads to tire-squealing chases and fierce on-foot firefights while tailing gangsters, chasing witnesses, stealing cars and unloading massive clips of ammo to bring the criminals to justice.

Superstars V8 Racing - Next Challenge (Xbox 360)

Superstars V8 Racing - Next Challenge (Xbox 360) review

Hear the tyres scream with the top V8 production class cars of the official Superstarts Championship

    Retro touring car racing re-born.4
As a bit of an old guy, I too remember and love the old ToCA PS1 games. They were all about good, close, paint-swapping racing. Not car collecting, modding or painting.

GRID was a bit of a let down for a lot of people, mainly because it threw away the old authenticity of the previous games and went for a more PGR kind of experience. I've got nothing against that, but I always longed for a game to bring back the glory days. Race Pro filled the gap for a while, but it is a ruthless sim, and ToCA was never about that.

If you are expecting anywhere near the quality of graphics and depth of the likes of Forza 3 or NFS Shift, then you are going to be one unhappy gamer if you get SV8 not knowing what it's really all about. Please consider yourself warned and don't blame us for wasting your cash.
If, on the other hand, you too long for the PS1 glory days, and those old classic touring car games, then this ladies and gentleman, is the second coming.

Oh, and for those who bought the first Superstars V8 game and thought it wasn't all that, then this one is indeed a lot better. Recommend you try the demo on Xbox live first though.

    Touring Car Racing4
If you have the first game and fancy upgrading, please note that there is hardly any difference between the two. If you are toying between the two, get this, it is slightly better.

Based on (I think) an Italian touring car series, the game is full of drivers and teams you have never heard of before. Unless you have the first game whereas they are exactly the same. There are nine courses in the game and most are fairly uncommon in the more popular racing games. Graphics are reasonable. Not great but they will do. No improvement over the last game then.

Racing games are all about handling and this is where the game has had some adjustment. Cars are heavy to handle and a bit sluggish, high top speed but it takes a few seconds to get there. They also sway as you try to correct. Braking is very heavy and you need to anticipate the corners carefully. In other words, this is authentic touring car handling. Well done. Also, racing in packs takes some time to get used to (if you are not a touring car fan like me) so picking the right spot to overtake and positioning your car carefully is the key. Great stuff. The wet track dries out as you lap and the levels of difficulty seem to be better spaced.

However, you don't get much of a game for your money. A single race mode, a time trial mode, a race weekend and a full championship with 9 tracks. That is it. Haven't tried on-line yet as there is no one on. Challenges this time have a driving school theme.

My only criticism is the same as the last outing. You get a 30 min free practice, and then a 30 min qualification period so that you can take part in two three lap races lasting about 6 mins each. What a waste of time! If you don't complete the qualification then you start at the back of the grid. Guess who is always on the back row! Why can we not adjust the qualification period like we can the race laps?

Despite its limited content and a few flaws, this is a very good touring car racing game. Similar to the previous game with a few tweaks. Not perfect but getting there. This game won't compete with the big boys like Forza but then again, it is a niche title. Enjoy.

    Burnout (Xbox)

    Burnout (Xbox) review

    Editorial Reviews

    Amazon.co.uk Review
Like your racing games fast, furious and full of spectacular smashes? You're in luck. With Burnout, Acclaim remove all pretence of going for a serious simulation and instead serve up a delicious dish of pure arcade fun on the Xbox. There are two key selling points to the game--the speed the action runs at and the spectacular crashes.

To facilitate these, the set-up couldn't be more straightforward, with the aim simply being to be first past the post. You can increase your chances of this by driving more dangerously, although that comes with obvious pitfalls in the shape of those aforementioned smashes. Suffice it to say, though, to get through the game you're going to have to take your chances.

Contrary to the serious approach of Project Gotham Racing, this is foot-to-the-pedal stuff, and tremendously good fun to play. And when you do put your proverbial foot down, get ready to move, for this is a blisteringly fast title that deceptively requires more concentration than it would first appear.

The downside is that this won't appeal to those who like their racing games nice and serious, nor to those looking for anything particularly innovative. For Burnout has few qualms about marrying the multimedia power of the Xbox to a game engine that forsakes bells and whistles for speed, destruction and sheer good fun. Fortunately, in this case, it's all the better for it, making it a great four-wheel treat. --Simon Brew

    Manufacturer's Description
Burnout reinvents intense racing with the most brutal, realistic and pulse-pounding driving experience available any video game system. It's the most high-risk, high-energy arcade-style street racer available. No learning curve required, just pick up and play. The most spectacular crashes ever--period. Burnout's action will leave you sweating, short of breath and totally in shock. Hyperventilating is part of the fun. Burnout monitors your driver's heart rate: you're rewarded for near-misses and the more risks you take. Civilians steer clear!

    Samurai Warriors 3

    Samurai Warriors 3 review

Samurai Warriors 3 is an evolution of the Warriors series, featuring an innovative new game mode and a completely fresh new storyline.

    so much fun5
This is a great game for the wii, i've seen someone play dynasty warriors before, so i can say it's pretty much that, it's got quite a lot of options to keep one playing, most characters have a different story line, all story lines have a few chapters, and most chapters start or end with videos that sets a nice atmosphere while playing, there's an option to set the spoken languages to either english or japanese (personally i prefere the japanese voices, but i do admit it's harder to understand while you're in the battlefield even though it's got a bunch of subtitles, it's hard to fight and read at the same time)
you don't start off with all the characters, so you earn rice to unlock characters, there's several playmodes, story, free, a castle mode and history, i haven't been able to try the online feature cause i have unstable wireless internet.
it can be played using all wii controllers, nunchuck, classic and gamecube controllers which i find is pretty cool
the difficulty settings are also quite well balanced, easy is quite easy, you slash through most enemies with ease, some missions that require you to defend an ally and force you to beat an opponent can still be quite tricky, and it's very hard to beat all the tactical bonuses in a round, so while it seems easy, you can't always wonder off alone

once you beat story mode once you get a 4th difficulty setting too, and i've tried it once, and i ended up dying after 3 hits, so even for hardcore gamers it'll be a nice game

i honostly can't really find a down side to this game...
maybe camera controll, but i never really bothered much about that cause you'll find yourself slashing away in massive enemy armies most of the time anyway
good fun and i gave this game a 5 star rating because of that, i've played it for almost 20 hours and i only did 6 story lines so far, with many more to follow.
definitely recommended to any wii owner

    Paradise (PC CD)

    Paradise (PC CD) review

    PARADISE4
A very good entertaining game. A classic point and click adventure with great graphics and a good story line. The puzzles are great and not too hard. I hate it when you have to keep referring to a walkthrough! The only bit I didn't really like was the ending. Very sad and quite shocking. I like a happy ending really, but other than that, I really enjoyed it. Would be good if they did a sequel.

    Better than the reviews suggest4
I played this right through and found that it was a top quality adventure. Maybe not quite as good as the Syberia games, but not far off. the only slightly dodgy bit is where you play as the cat in 3d, and this didn't work that well and could be skipped anyway. So what was the point. However, that aside, I would recommend this to anyone looking out for a good 3rd person adventure.

    Paradise3
After Syberia (a brilliant game) I had great hopes for Paradise. Unfortunately it was nowhere near the same quality. The character graphics were very poor - the story weird, and the ending very strange.

I just hope that Benoit Sokal gets it right next time.

A non stop deadly race through and through5
Call of Duty 2 is relentless. It throws you almsot strait into the action and doesn't stop until the end credits. Like the origional Call of Duty, the game sets you in various WW2 battles from the perspective of Russian, British and American lowely foot soldier. Each of the scenarious differs greatly in scenery, the way nature of the fighting, and in the experiences they offer. The game has an immensely slick and polished feel to it with some awe enspiring visuals and sounds. The battles are very challenging with dozens of foes to overcome. Also, a novel new health systems forces you to play intelligenly; no more picking up handy first aid packs. The game only rarely throws you up against a stone wall of opposition that you are repeatedly struggling against. The multiplayer aspect is a joy that will keep you coming back for more after the single player game is complete. In my opinion, one of the top 3 finest WW2 shooters out there

I purchased this for my little boy who is 5, I wanted a game that was ideal for his age, and this is excellent.

We have Batman and Indiana on the DS, which are great fun, this is just as good.

And much more new to offer, it still has. For the first time ever, characters can get in and out of vehicles, as well as ride creatures. You can also mix and match the body parts of more than 50 playable characters to create one of millions of possible LEGO Star Wars heroes. And on console and Windows platforms, a game save from the first LEGO Star Wars can unlock another 50-plus additional characters for Free Play - that's more than 100 total characters! Other exciting additions include free-roaming vehicle levels that are no longer on rails, the ability to switch ships at will in Free Play, cool new character-specific attacks and manoeuvres, playable mini-kit vehicles, an optional adaptive difficulty mode and more.

The Force is strong with this one........5
This game is brilliant and i would recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys Star Wars or playable games or Lego!
It expands on the first game, and has improved on it's minor flaws. The levels are bigger, the graphics are better, the music is improved and there are so many extras and secrets tucked away in it to discover.
The game developers haven't taken out the things that made the first one such a joy to play. The humour is still great, the playability is fantastic and of course it has Lego!!!
It is one of those games you can pick up and play for a bit of fun, or can be a real geek and try and complete everything.
I enjoy the co-operative mode too.Great to play with a friend and spend time just having fun.
    A modern classic!
And Amazon sell this at a great price too.
Part with your money now - you will not regret it!!!!!

    Dante's Inferno (PSP) review
EAs Dantes Inferno will take gamers to the western worlds most definitive view of the afterlife as created in the 13th century by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri in part one of his epic classic, The Divine Comedy. It tells an adapted story that focuses on delivering a blockbuster 3rd person action game experience while bringing Alighieris depiction of Hell to the medium. Players assume the role of Dante, who descends into Hell after returning home to find his beloved Beatrice murdered, with Lucifer seducing her soul into the underworld. Dante sets out on a rescue mission to save Beatrice, but he soon realizes he is also in Hell to face his own demons and ultimately to redeem himself.

Players will take Dante through nine unique circles of Hell as mapped out and described by Alighieri: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. Each circle will showcase its own distinct look, with demons, monsters, damned and geography that are crafted straight from the poems vivid descriptions. To take down the demons of Hell, Dante is outfitted with two primary weapons: the Scythe he takes from Death and the Holy Cross given to him by Beatrice, which has spiritual powers that will help Dante collect souls and spells from the creatures he defeats on his journey. The game also features a deep upgrade system so gamers can customize their abilities to their specific gameplay style, something theyll need as Dante comes face to face with Hells fiercest beasts and bosses. If successful, Dante will be able to tame certain beasts, exacting their will and turning Hells punishments back on itself.

Built on the same technology as the award-winning Dead Space, Dantes Inferno will deliver a fast, fluid and responsive combat experience running at 60 frames per second, a must-have for the action adventure genre. The game is being built by Visceral Games, with the same attention to poli

    Fantastic game, perfect for PSP5
I bought this on PS3 and it was rubbish, I felt that it was a underwhelming experience for the PS3's capabilities. On the advice of the PSP podcast and because I am due to go to Orlando next week, I bought this to play on the plane. I have got to say that this is perfect for the PSP. The graphics look great, the screen is crisp, the action is fun & frenetic and the storyline is the same as the PS3's. It's a shame I didn't go for this version as it totally works on the PSP platform, but it teaches me a lesson in not writing off my PSP just yet as there are a plethora of good games out there. If you loved God of War:Chains of Olympus, then this is right up there with it.

A decent, but not perfect FPS4
I bought this game on a whim, as I had seen some decent adverts for it and liked the look of a FPS set in Africa.

At first, I hated this game! I wasn't too keen on the aiming, and it seemed like the bad guys always knew where you were and that they were invisible. I sacked it off for a while and then came back to it a few months later and got really into it.

To enjoy this game, you really need to approach each combat situation with a strategy. It's not the kind of game where you just wade in lobbing grenades and blasting everyone in site - it requires a bit of finesse.

If you're prepared to be patient and clever, then you'll be rewarded with an awesome immersive action shooter that will last you many hours. Far Cry 2 is not for ADHD afflicted casual gamers.

    There are some flaws:

    1. Enemies respawn in the same places whenever you back track through an area that you previously encountered. This can get a bit annoying when you have a few journeys to make.

    2. Everyone wants to kill you! There are no neutrals or civilians in this game. Everywhere you go you'll be shot at.

    3. The wildlife in the game are very fragile. A zebra walked into my parked car and just keeled over! Strange, but quite amusing in all fairness.

    4. The glider is useless. Don't bother trying to use it. Enemies spot you a mile off and a few shots bring it down. Totally wasted concept.

    But the benefits are plenty:

    1. Graphically impressive - the African plains, deserts, and jungles are all very convincing. The weather and day/night usage is very cool and can be used to your advantage in combat.

    2. The variety of weapons is impressive. You can really tailor your arsenal to suit your combat style. Each weapon is upgradable too.

    3. Longevity - this game is huge and will keep you busy for many hours. The vastness of the environment means that there are many hidden things to find and unusual spots in the environment that come in handy when you're planning an ambush.

    4. Buddy system - this can be very useful, but also a bit annoying at times. If you get too badly injured in a firefight, your buddy will show up and rescue you and help out a bit in combat. This is really useful if you're doing really well on a mission and offers you a second chance to complete it. The downside is that some of your buddy missions can end in their death, and it's sometimes too much hassle completing them only to result in having to put your buddy out of his or her misery...but I guess that's war for you.

    5. Fire effects - the way fire spreads and consumes in this game is awesome! If you're clever, you can turn an enemy outpost into a raging inferno in seconds and get the enemies believing that they're under attack by a whole army. Very cool!

    6. First aid scenes - I thought these were wicked! Some people hate them, but I found they added to the realism of the game. When your health is critically low, you have to find somewhere safe to perform a short first aid treatment. This can be anything from removing shrapnel from your arm, or putting out a flaming limb. A nice feature IMO.

Overall, you'll either love this game or hate it - there's not much middle ground. I can see the reasons why some people gave this game negative reviews, but I think that this game is definitely worth working with to get a whole lot of enjoyment out of. If you can rent or borrow this game first, give it a try - you might just be impressed.

Valkyria Chronicles is set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of 1930s Europe - divided in two and ruled by the Empire and the Federation. The Empire has set its sights on invading a small neutral country called Gallia, which is situated in the middle of the two great empires. The game follows a hero named Welkin and his fellow soldiers of the Federation’s 7th Platoon as they engage in a series of epic battles.

Built upon the new "CANVAS" engine, developed internally by SEGA Game Studios Japan, Valkyria Chronicles’ stunning 3D graphics resemble a watercolor painting in motion, taking full advantage of the processing capabilities of the PLAYSTATION 3. The power of the PLAYSTATION 3 also allows the development team to exploit the full potential of this new engine, giving players many different stunning environments to explore. A new type of tactical battle mechanic has been specifically designed for Valkyria Chronicles. Known as "BLiTZ," this gives players freedom to strategically move around the environment and attack enemies using real-time controls, something never before seen in the tactical role-playing game genre. The new "CANVAS" engine technology, the "BLiTZ" battle concept and an epic storyline offers players hours of exciting gameplay.

There aren't too many video games based on 14th century epic poetry and to be fair this is unlikely to start a trend. Not because it isn't any good, but because it merely uses the idea of the nine circles of hell as the basis for a God of War style third person brawler.

Considering the game starts with you beating up Death and stealing his scythe, to use as your main weapon, the game actually manages the balance between outrageous action and serious story pretty well.

You'll constantly have to make the decision of whether to absolve damned spirits or condemn them. Which you choose will see your holy or unholy special powers increase and effect the ending of the game. With some huge boss fights (including Old Nick himself at the end) and grotesquely imaginative graphics this could be a real slice of heaven for action fans.

    Key Features
    • Holy tragedy: Inspired by the classic Divine Comedy, you must journey through the nine circles of Hell to rescue the love of your life from Satan himself.
    • Hell of War: Fluid combat system features intense melee combat and magical attacks, all of which can be upgraded and customised according to your preferences.
    • Quality of mercy: You must choose whether to absolve damned spirits or condemn them - your choices will affect the story and your special weapons.
    • Dangerous ride: Defeat beast-riding enemies and you can ride the monsters themselves and make use of their special powers and awesome strength.
    • Helter skelter : Each circle of Hell has its own unique art style and creatures, becoming progressively more dangerous and disturbing as you go.
    About the Developer: Visceral Games

Lost Planet 2 picks up 10 years since the events of the original adventure and the landscape has evolved dramatically. With the success of terraforming activities, the planet's ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and other new environments. Follow the exploits of your own customized snow pirates on their quest to seize control of E.D.N III.

In addition to the anchor actions that made the gameplay in Lost Planet a true 3-D experience, Lost Planet 2 allows gamers to gain tactical advantage with a wide variety of new actions. The game will also contain a new addition to the enormous Akrids which were a fan-favourite in the first Lost Planet.

One of Japan's biggest new action series of recent years is heating up - literally. As the ice caps melt the planet of E.D.N III turns from a frozen wasteland to a mix of jungle paradise and blistering desert. That only makes the world more dangerous though, with the continued threat of "snow" pirates and even bigger and more aggressive Akrid monsters.

Inspired by Halo and other Western action games this third person shooter also blends in the best of Japanese titles with role-playing style character customisation and some of the best giant robot suits in the business.

Brand new for this sequel is a four-player co-operative option that lets you play through the whole single player campaign with three allies (either human or computer controlled). With a greatly expanded competitive multiplayer as well this should reveal and exploit all of the potential of the original Lost Planet.

    Key Features
    • Global warming: Return to E.D.N III as this all-action sequel expands on everything from the original with bigger monsters, more versatile robots and more varied backdrops.
    • Fantastic four: Never enter a battle alone, as you fight through the story campaign in online co-operative mode or with computer-controlled fighters.
    • Giant robo: Pilot VC (Vital Suit) robots that are as versatile as your own character, with transforming models and others that require multiple players to operate.
    • Lost makeover: Customise the look of your character and their abilities, with unique weapons and items suited to specific playing styles.
    • Environmental modelling: Stunning new graphics technology provides all new backdrops with their own specific dangers, from lush jungle to scorching desert and freezing tundra.

    Manufacturer's Description
This is not your average Wii game. Not only is it a rare 18-rated title for the console, but it's one of the most violent video games on any system. If you've the stomach for it though it's been created by some of gaming's most talented developers, including the producer of Viewtiful Joe and Okami.
Although the level of violence is extreme it's not in the slightest bit realistic or serious, as lead character Jack competes in an ultraviolent television show called Death Watch. The whole game is portrayed in a black & white comic book style, with the only other colour present being the red of split blood.

Beyond all the controversy though lies a well-honed action game, with Jack able to use almost anything in the environment as a weapon - whether it's tied down or not. If you want more out of the Wii than just another mini-game collection, this could be the game for you.
    Key Features

    * Family values: The most violent game ever made for the Wii, from one of the heads of the legendary Clover Studio - creators of Okami and God Hand.
    * Red all over: Unique graphical style is influenced by Frank Miller's Sin City, with the whole game portrayed solely in black, white and… red.
    * Farewell to arms: Main character Jack has a chainsaw for an arm and he's not afraid to use it, insome of the most visceral melee combat ever seen.
    * (E)motion control: Context-sensitive controls are easy to learn but provide plenty of nuance as you learn to use your environment and your enemy's tactics to your advantage.
    * Black & red: Bizarre mini-games and challenges, including the gruesome "death press" and the over-the-top "man darts" - involving a baseball bat and a giant dart board.

    BRUTALLY AWESOME!!5
First of all this review is not based on the demo, Gameplay for some reason dispatched the game on Tuesday and I received it yesterday, and then promptly spent the entire night playing it and am happy to report it is awesome.
How much you enjoy it though may depend on how much you love metal/hard rock, myself being a metal fan absolutely loved every minute, in the first three missions I finished there were more heavy metal references then I can even remember, some of them obvious, such as the appearance of Ozzy Osbourne which has been one of the highlights so far, and some less obvious such as artwork from metal albums which influence the landscape you drive around.
As to the actual game play, there is nothing new to break the mould, anyone who has played the demo will know what to expect in terms of the hack and slash, the introduction of the RTS side of things is most welcome and comes in slowly throughout the second mission and introduces you to the basics including double team moves you can perform, favourite so far involves the head bangers who you can have form a mosh pit around you, they then proceed to head band every enemy to death.
For the completionists out there this game should take some time as there are loads to collect in the open world, such as statues, and guitar solos which can then be used in a variety of ways, also there are secondary missions, so far the ones I have done have either been racing games or ambush missions, which again were good if not exactly ground breaking.
All in all in you are a metal fan you have to buy this game, you will love spotting all the metal references as well as the awesome soundtrack, which you unlock more of as the game goes on. If you don't like metal I would still highly recommend it as the graphics are great and the game is very entertaining and the development of the RTS side of the game should keep it interesting.

a great game unless you are a metalhead, then its just beautiful!5
first things 1st i should point out that i am a metalhead. if you are not then immediately take a star off of the overall score

being rather metallically inclined as it were i was obviously salivating at the idea of this game, jack black might have lost some on screen credibility recently (subject to opinion)but his love of heavy metal cannot be denied so in a role like this we can always trust him (if in doubt see tenacious d- album and movie)then of course we have ozzy osbourne, lemmy kilminster and rob halford in guest roles. and finally the soundtrack. (if your not a metalhead skip this section cos you wont care)

    THE BEAUTIFUL SOUNDTRACK!!!
this is worthy of a special mention 75 songs approx of pure metal bliss i assure you, covering pretty much everything thats come out in the last 30 years that isnt adolescent whining (the games intro makes a fine point of this trust me). and there is something for every "true" metalhead here, we got slayer, sabbath, priest, skeloton witch, sanctuary, anthrax etc for the more old school: KFMDM, rob zombie, marylin manson for those who wont a bit more modern stuff. and for the more gothic/black metallers we got some cradle of filth, dimmu borgir, enslaved, rotting christ. theres bound to be something for you here. hell even dethklok are on there (MURMAIDER!) to be honest for 75 songs if this game is still £25 then thats probably what youll be paying just for the soundtrack!

    anyway back to the game.

graphics are absolutely beautiful. theyve got this really nice cartoony feel to them that is perfect for the feel of the game itself.

the story is a brilliant parody of traditional heavy metal fighting back against sub genres that have mutated it from its purest, and according to the game -greatest - form. its genuinely hilarious at the best of times and entertaining throughout.
the game itself is an absolute beauty to play. the controls are simple, but the game utilises this to allow you to gradually control more and more stuff (namely an army of metal cliches - headbangers for 1. there are 9 total). the game kind of plays like a sandbox rpg - at least in its map. you drive around a relatively large map (not oblivion big but still), whilst your main quest goes on you have a selection of side missions that you can pretty much complete when you feel like.

combat starts as just you with your axe and your er...axe (thats guitar to the rest of you). you hit people with the axe and the guitar works like your standard RPG style magic weapon, electric fire and earth attacks can be utilised from the get go. a little further on the battles take on an almost RTS feel to them (although the creator of the game has stressed that you shouldnt play the game like an RTS or you will lose - and hes right). this is when you reach stage battles. you build a stage, the enemy builds a stage. then you make as big an army as you can to tear it down. its more frantic - and fun - than that sounds

there are some issues with this game however the main one to me was

its pretty short overall - sure there are plenty of side missions but they are very anticlimatical. there really is no motivation (or indeed reward) for doing these missions except fire tributes (basically xp/money depending how you look at it) to make you more capable of completing the main quest - which isnt too hard anyway hence why its short - i finished this in 2 sittings, probably about 9 hours gameplay (i am a bit of a nerd though- i write reviews afterall). that said i was more than happy to play through it again in "brutal" mode so it does have replay value. the only real reason to play through it again is just that it was really enjoyable. and to say you did it on brutal (achievement obviously)

another problem (especially given the previous issue) is that this game tries to cram A LOT into this short space. youve got elements of your standard action game, driving (both of the racing and of the racing with guns variety), RTS (kind of),RPG style customisation, hell even a bit of guitar hero-ness is thrown in both on the map and in combat (FACE MELTEEEEERRRR -itll make sense) the only reason this mattered to me is that i found the stage battles got considerably harder towards the end in a very quick learning curve. i suddenly went from being perfectly capable of battle to feeling like i didnt have a clue what was going on. you get there in the end but this is a frustrating occurence and one that could have been avoided.

and the final problem is when there are so many elements to a game its really hard to keep a review from getting undigestibly long! sorry

the above said i have to say that the fact that there are a lot of elements to this do keep it feeling fresh and nearly always enjoyable. one of my personally favourite games on my 360. defintitely worth a go. unless youre a metalhead in witch case youd be a fool not to try this game out. this is a game made out of sheer love and respect for the greatest music ever made and it shows! METAL THRASHING MAD? indeed

Brutal Legend had a lot of hype behind it and a lot of my friends have said its fantastic but I cant help but feel disappointed. Do not by any means think that I am saying its a bad game because its not but it just doesn't live up to expectations.

I usually do very detailed reviews of games, so if you are looking for a more detailed review you might want to look else where because I am only going into why it disappointed me. The game starts out as a opened world hack and slash game, you drive around in a beautifully detailed world, which is greatly themed around heavy metal music and the first couple of hours are great fun. You axe your way through hordes of enemies, take down a giant spider and drive around in your car that you later upgrade. But very suddenly, a couple of hours in, it suddenly turns into an real time strategy game. By that I mean you have to build your stage, protect your resources and build troops and command them. I don't dislike these missions but its not what I signed on for. After playing the demo, the game is portrayed as a hack and slash and even though you can still fight while looking after your troops but it kind of took the flow of combat away as you had to babysit your army. Before you buy this game, make sure you preview these levels online, maybe on Youtube because if these levels aren't your thing, you will lose interest after an hour BUT if you do like these levels, you are in for a great time. I still gave the game 3 stars because as I said, I still don't think the games bad, I just feel it was ill advertised.

There are also mini games which are not very entertaining. This is where I explain the title of this review. There are racing mini games (which I actually really enjoyed), beat em up mini games and shooter mini games. When playing these mini games I couldn't help but feel like the developers where looking down a sheet of game genres and attempting to tick them off. They even have a small guitar hero replica that you need to repeat every time you want to summon a vehicle or raise a relic, just encase they couldn't tick off the music genre box.

The writing is also a slight let down, it was very hyper to be hilariously written and while it does have great characters and Jack Blacks voice acting is A*, it wasn't that funny. This is a minor complaint and doesn't make the game bad but with Jack Blacks reputation I was expecting it to be a little bit funnier but as voice acting goes its very good.

Overall the game is good, its beautiful, well written and has a large variety of different game types that keeps you interested throughout but as the mini games get very repetitive and the main missions stick very much to the RTS genre once it changes over it didn't deliver what I was expecting and hence I give it 3 stars. This is my own personal opinion and I am not saying this should put you off in any way, this was just a warning encase you were looking for something different like me.
